Florida Fatal Car Accident Caused by Chair On Turnpike

A fatal car accident on Florida’s Turnpike was caused by a chair that fell on the highway. A man from St. Cloud has come forward to admit that it was his chair that fell of his truck, causing the tragic accident on May 1, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The St. Cloud man now faces a misdemeanor charge for his involvement in the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were contacted by Timothy Debrecht, a 43-year-old man, just two days after the car accident that took the life of 33-year-old Ericka Roman, a D.J. with Power 95.3 FM in Orlando.

Debrecht was traveling with his family to the Florida Keys, pulling a boat when the chair fell off the boat north of Fort Pierce. Roman tried to swerve to miss the chair, lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

According to FHP repoprts, Debrecht was unaware that anything had happened until he reached the Keys and noticed the chair missing. He then saw the news reports and contacted the police. Debrecht gave a statement to troopers on the family’s return trip home and expressed remorse for what happened.
