44 Year Old Man Killed in Polk County Truck Accident

Aug. 5, 2010 – Polk County, Fl. - A fatal Florida truck accident involving two vehicles left one man dead in Polk County, Florida.

The crash occurred on U.S. 98 near Rockridge Road, at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a 2007 Ford Focus and a Kentworth T600 semi-truck.

The driver of the Ford, Roberto E. Villasuso, 44, of Lakeland, was killed when the trucks collided. Villasuso’s passenger in the vehicle, his 9-year-old son, was reported to have suffered critical injuries, and was taken to Tampa General Hospital. The 64-year-old driver of the semi-truck did not report any injuries in the U.S. 98 truck crash.

While investigators are still looking into the cause of the truck accident, no criminal charges have been filed. Alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, the 9-year-old boy, who at last notice was still unconscious in the hospital, may have slipped into a coma. Villasuso is survived by his wife, his injured son, and a 2-year old son.
