Orlando Car Accident Leaves 2 Dead

An Orlando car accident involving two vehicles leaves two people dead and two others critically injured after a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic and slams into another car. The incident took place at approximately 9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at N. Hiawassee Road and Clarcona Ocoee Road when a 1995 Honda crossed into oncoming traffic after an attempt to switch lanes. The Honda slammed into a 1989 Chevrolet pickup head-on.

The driver of the Honda has been identified at Damien Edwards, 19, of Orlando. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.

Rescue crews transported three others, including the driver of the Chevrolet, to Orlando Regional Medical Center. One of the passengers in the second vehicle was later pronounced dead. The two other victims, a 15 year-old girl and a 36-year-old man, were listed in critical condition.

According to witnesses, the force of the impact caused one of the vehicles to flip over several times.

The fatal Orlando car accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Investigators have not determined why Edwards crossed into oncoming traffic.
