Longwood Accident Leaves Two Dead

A Longwood car accident involving a single vehicle leaves two young men dead after the driver lost control and struck a tree. The incident took place just after 1:00 AM on Thursday morning, November 26, 2009 at the edge of Wekiva Springs State Park in Seminole County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Ujval Desai, 22, of Orlando, was traveling northbound on Wekiva Springs Road when he lost control of the 2005 Nissan he was driving. The Nissan swerved off the road and smashed into a tree. The vehicle then flipped over, finally came to a stop onto its roof after hitting a second tree. Desai, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.

Anton Cantiberos, 23, was also in the car at the time of the accident. Rescue workers transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The Longwood accident, just north of Orlando, is still under investigation by local authorities. However, early reports from the Florida Highway Patrol have indicated that wet pavement might be a contributing factor to the fatal one-vehicle accident. The Florida Highway Patrol has also reported that neither of the victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
