Orlando Pedestrian Is Killed While Jogging

An Orlando pedestrian accident involving a jogger and a car results in the death a pedestrian. The incident took place at approximately 6:00 AM on Monday morning, November 16, 2009 at the four-way intersection of State Road 482, Sand Lake Road and University Boulevard in Orlando.

According to Orlando Police Sgt. Bud Jones, Dr. Kenneth L. Baughman, 63, of Newton, Massachusetts, was jogging and attempting to cross the busy intersection. He was struck by a 2007 Saturn sedan driven by Gary Krotke, 50, of Haines City.

According to Jones, Baughman was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries suffered in the accident.

The four-way intersection is located in a busy tourist area, according to Jones. He indicated that the fact that he did not recall any crosswalks located in the intersection could have been a contributing factor in the incident.

Baughman, a cardiologist and director of Advanced Heart Disease at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, was in Orlando attending the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2009 conference when the accident occurred.

Dr. Gary Gottlieb described Baughman as an avid athlete.

The Orlando pedestrian accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, Jones indicated that he did not believe that any charges would be filed against Krotke.
