Five Are Sent To Hospital in Florida Accident

A Florida car accident sent several people to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The wreck took place on County Road 466A and Picciola Road in Lake County, outside of the Orlando area. The incident happened on Thursday evening, October 1, 2009.

The accident occurred when a sport utility vehicle (SUV), while traveling south on Picciola Road, drove off the right shoulder for an undetermined reason, according to Lake County Sheriff’s deputies. The driver of the SUV then overcorrected and slammed into a van.

According to authorities the collision caused a wheel from the SUV to detach from the vehicle and strike a motorcycle. There were two people on the motorcycle. The female motorcyclist ended up in a nearby lake. The SUV also ended up in the lake after hitting a guardrail.

Rescue crews transported two people from the SUV to a nearby hospital. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The two motorcyclists were flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center and are considered to be in serious condition.

The driver of the van was taken to Leesburg Regional Hospital. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not been made known yet.

The accident is still under investigation. The identities of the five persons involved have not been made available as of yet.
