10 Year Old Boy in Port Orange Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car

November 3, 2010 – Port Orange, FL Click Orlando reports that a 10-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a car. It happened while the 5 th grade student was walking to Spruce Creek Elementary school.

Douglas Ethan Swayze was in the crosswalk on Taylor Road, around 7 am on Nov. 3 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling 45 mph. The driver, Michael O. Schoenbeck, 60, of Port Orange, remained at the scene of the accident and notified police.

At the time of the pedestrian accident the school zone was unopened and no crossing guards were stationed in the area.

Swayze was transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and is listed in critical condition. Schoenbeck was not injured in the crash and police are still investigating the pedestrian accident. No charges have been filed at this time.
