Fatal Florida Car Accident Cases Show Importance of Seatbelts

There have been numerous recent accidents in Florida that have shown the importance of wearing a seatbelt while driving or riding in a car.

Last week, a 17-year-old high school student was killed in a Florida car accident on I-275 in St. Petersburg. Travis Martin died after his SUV struck a guardrail and he was ejected from his vehicle.

Another recent Florida auto accident involved nine teenagers from Jacksonville. Their SUV blew a tire and eight of the teens were ejected from the vehicle. Three were killed and three others were in critical condition following the car accident. The driver was injured, but wasn’t thrown from the vehicle. He was the only one who had been wearing a seatbelt.

A news conference was held just hours after the SUV accident by police who discussed the importance of using seatbelts. Patrol officials say that it is hard to get people enthused about hearing a safety message about seatbelts.

During the news conference, another car accident caused the injury of 4-month-old Danaie Rodriguez-Hernandez. She was thrown from her parents’ Nissan when her father ran a red light. Her mother had been nursing her in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident.
