Re Announcement of Lg Electronics Dehumidifier Recall

Aug. 19, 2010 - As the result of additional reports of fires caused by portable dehumidifiers, LG Electronics has issued a re-announcement of their dehumidifier recall, which was previously announced in December of 2009. According to the company, there has been a low return of the recalled units, of which there are about 98,000 in the United States.

This may be particularly pertinent for Central Florida consumers, given the humid conditions in the region which would necessitate the need for a dehumidifier.

The reported hazard is related to the power connector, which can short circuit and pose fire and burn hazards to consumers. Of the 4 new incidents that have been reported, 1 home was significantly damaged.

The recalled dehumidifiers include the following models and brands:

  • Goldstar model # GHD30Y7, which was sold at Home Depot;
  • Goldstar model # DH305Y7, which was sold at Walmart; and
  • Comfort-Aire model # BHD-301-C, which was sold at Heat Controller Inc.

If you own one of these defective products, you should stop using it and contact LG Electronics. The defective products can be returned to an authorized LG service center for repair.
