Recalled Electrolux and Frigidaire Stoves Pose Fire Risk

My Fox Orlando reports that Electrolux and Frigidaire stoves are being recalled because of the risk of fire. The potential for a fire can occur when the stoves heat unexpectedly or fail to turn off. This type of defective product can result in a product liability claim.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), liquid can pool underneath the control knobs on the stoves. This causes the heating element to turn on and heat to a soaring temperature.

The CPSC is urging consumers to stop using these recalled stoves. In addition, consumers are urged to unplug the stoves and turn off their circuit breakers to make sure the cook tops cannot turn on.

The manufacturer is recalling approximately 122,000 Frigidaire Slide-In Ranges and Electrolux ICON Smoothtop Electric Cooktops, sold between January 2005 and August 2010. There were reports of 3 fires that resulted in property damage and 2 minor burns to consumers.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Electrolux Home Products Inc. has received 70 incident reports on the recalled stoves. Consumers can contact Electrolux at 888-281-5310 for a free repair kit.
