Loose Tire To Blame for Fatal I 4 Truck Accident in Tampa

The loose tire of a semi-trailer truck was to blame for the fatal truck accident that killed the driver of a FedEx truck on I-4 near the exit to U.S. Highway 301 in Tampa. Authorities said on Feb. 9, a semi traveling on the same stretch of highway suffered equipment failure when a tire came loose and struck the FedEx truck, causing the driver, William Morales, 45, to lose control of his vehicle.

The FedEx truck crashed into a shoulder barrier wall and the concrete pillars of the U.S. 301 overpass. Morales died on the scene, while the driver of the other truck, Felix Rios, 51, was not injured. Florida Highway Patrol was at the scene and is investigating the truck accident.

The fatal truck accident caused two westbound lanes of I-4 to be shut down for more than 3 hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The U.S. 301 exit was reopened 5 hours after the crash occurred.
